I am the first to admit that web 2.0 is an exciting direction for the internet, but isn’t it possible that it’s not for everyone? Isn’t it possible that some sites don’t require cutting edge technology and can still be contemporary and useful?
When I build a site for a customer in the construction industry, it is not meant to appeal to your standard web expert or even to anyone who knows what web 2.0 means. It is meant to reach your customers and if a simple “This is who we are, this is what we do, contact us by email or webform” does the job, then so be it.
One of the most common criticisms I see on review sites and forums is “Thats not very web 2.0″. Well guess what? Maybe it’s ok not to be web 2.0 for everyone, maybe I wasn’t going for cutting edge, flashy website that makes us all say “WOW thats so cool!”.
Design for your customers intended audience, not your own peers or the people you want to impress.
